February 2008

13.02.2008 Credit Suisse announced that it had write-downs of CHF 1.3 billion ($1.18 billion) in the fourth quarter of the year 2006, while another one of Switzerland's largest banks, UBS, in the same period wrote down $14 billion. Lower losses of Credit Suisse may be connected to the fact that before the start of the crisis it reduced the amount of most risky investments. Although net profit of Credit Suisse fell 72% in the fourth quarter of the year, its investment banking operation continued to report profits.
