02.04.2007 Last week governments of the United States and the Netherlands Antilles exchanged the diplomatic notes, and from that moment a Tax and Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA) between these countries came into force. From March 22, 2007 the agreement allows taxpayers in the United States to claim a deduction on convention expenses paid in the five islands of the Netherlands Antilles - Curacao, Saint Maarten, Bonaire, Saba and Saint Eustatius. Taxpayers of the Netherlands Antilles have the same rights for conventions held in the United States. The treaty will also allow the Netherlands Antilles to benefit from the Caribbean Basin Trade Partnership Act. At the moment the Netherlands Antilles is also in the process of talks with the governments of Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago, towards the creation of double tax treaties; talks concerning similar agreements with northern countries were to start in February.
