Previously, the anti-money laundering law defined drug trafficking, terrorism, organized crime and smuggling as money laundering crimes. As to corruption and bribe-taking, violating financial management regulations and financial fraud, they were not defined in this law. Drafting the law began in 2004. The new law will come into effect on 1 January 2007. The law plans to exchange information with international anti-money laundering organizations to fight money laundering on the global scale.
